About this Happiness Blog

Welcome to the Happsters, a blog about happiness. I believe that happiness comes when you focus on the 4 G’s: Gratitude, Growth, Giving & Gathering, so I focus a lot on these four elements of a happy life in my writing. I’m all about supporting others, appreciating everything I have, continuing to learn and grow, striving to help others, and coming together as a community.

My name is Kelli & I live in San Diego, CA with my husband, Billy. I’m a life-long learner and enjoy finding new ways to increase happiness and joy, spread kindness, express creativity, and deepen my connection to myself, my community, and the planet. A few courses I’ve completed that have impacted what is included in this blog are the “Science of Happiness” Course through UC Berkeley, “Mindfulness Fundamentals” through Mindful Schools, and the Sacred Wild Apprenticeship. I graduated from USC in 2010 and started the Happsters in January of 2013 when I was inspired by a news clip of volunteers from an organization called “Happier Boston” performing random acts of kindness at their local train station. In that moment I had an “aha” moment that would change me forever. I realized I wanted to complete as many random acts of kindness”as possible and start a movement called “Happsters.” Within a few days I created this blog and printed thousands of “happy notes” that I sent around the world for free so others could leave kind words for people they came into contact with each day: mail carriers, waiters, their loved ones, strangers, etc.

Since then, we’ve created a beautiful community both here and on Instagram of amazing people who want to spread kindness, learn about happiness, and connect with other kind people. I hope you’ll join me on this journey! Questions or comments? Email me at happsters@gmail.com.

Happsters has been featured on BuzzFeedCosmopolitan Magazine, USA Today,  Self Magazine, MTVHuffington Post, The Wine & Spirits Podcast with Monica the Medium, Everyday Health and many more.

A few fun facts about me:

♥ Community is incredibly important to me, both online and offline, and is a big part of the reason that the Happsters has become such a meaningful part of my life. I’ve met the BEST people through this movement and I am so grateful for all of you.

♥ I loooooove a good quote and think that a simple sentence has the potential to change how we view the world. I share quotes on my Instagram page.

♥ One of the activities that makes me happiest is gardening. Right now I’m growing cut flowers in my backyard and am on a mission to give away 1 million flowers. You can learn more about my flower adventures here.

♥ Sandwiches are my favorite meal and I eat them every day – sometimes multiple times a day – and avocados are my literal jam (on everything).

♥ My favorite game is Tetris and my favorite sport is ping-pong.

♥ I took guitar lessons after college for 6 months and came out only learning half of Eric Clapton’s song “Tears in Heaven.”

♥ Kittens are an instant happiness boost for me and I look up pictures of random kittens daily.

♥ I like to think of myself as crafty, but my husband ends up finishing most of my projects.

P.S. I started the Happsters for fun and have a full-time job (at Inspire360), so I try to get back to everyone as quickly as possible. Please be patient with me :). Sending you love!

  1. Wow, I’m super grateful that you found my blog. What you’ve done here is really extraordinary. On my site, I talk about how millenials should rise above what’s expected of them by finding what makes them happy and fills them with purpose. What you’re doing is so cool because I could totally see a movement forming with this project! I totally look forward to reading your posts and seeing how you spread The Happster Message.

    Much Love and Light,
    Jenni

P.S. If it’s okay with you, I’d love to become an official happster. 🙂

  2. What a nice blog and project to share Kelli! 🙂 I also love help and make other people happy, as well as when others make me happy.
    Bests wishes from Zurich!

  3. So Kelli, you decided to join the small clan of Uncle Spike followers, sometimes known as The Spikey’s…. That makes me a happy blogger now – I really appreciate you making that special mouse click.

Hope you like my upcoming posts and if you get bored one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too.

If you have any likes, dislikes or suggestions about my blog, just let me know, either through ‘comments’ or via email. Always welcome reader input 🙂

    Have a great old day…

  4. Thanks for following my blog! I have just recently began blogging and I’m still unsure as to where I want to take it, but I’m taking it one post at a time and hope I find my way 🙂

I’m so glad I got a a chance to look through your blog, I think this movement you want to start is amazing and I am all for supporting it!

    Good luck!

  5. Thank you so much for following me – and I’m so glad you did because I LOVE your blog. What a powerful message… you’re an inspiration. Cheers to spreading the happy! 😉

      1. Just read your “about” page again… have you ever considered doing a little movement like the Boston peeps? If you ever want to try to organize something (like the handing out oranges) give me a shout and maybe we can collaborate. How cool would it be in a few years to have little happster posses all over the country doing something like this? Talk about making the world a happier place! 😀

  6. I’m loving your mission. This could potentially become 1 of my favorite sites. Thanks for doing this. By the way, I LOVE your pictures. Both are very unique. Glad to be connected to you. 🙂

  9. Wow, Kelli! I too am a Happiness Blogger and in the process of writing my first book on Happiness Experiments for 20 Somethings. I happened upon your blog because I have been throwing out ideas for what to call my followers as I am branding the next phase of participants in the experiments and thought of Happsters! Lucky I can’t be mad it’s already taken, since this site is quite darling and I am 100% behind your message. I would love to team up for a post or webinar sometime in the coming months! Check out my blog @ whatshappyning.com and I will be in touch soon! Cheers to your success girl!

    1. Hi Dorinda, thanks so much for your question! I just added an area to the sidebar of the page so you can subscribe with your email. Please let me know if that doesn’t work!
