Top 14 Physical and Psychological Benefits of Meditation

Hi Happsters!

Sorry I’ve been MIA lately! I hope you’ve been as happy as ever!

Today I wanted to share some fascinating meditation facts with you. If you’ve never tried before, I highly suggest giving it a shot. I used the free app “Headspace“, which was created for beginners, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I love it because it starts you out with meditating 10 minutes a day for 10 days. They talk you through the whole thing and make it very easy to get started.

I’ve found that meditation helped me significantly reduce my stress levels. Meditation actually “activates the ‘rest and digest’ part of our nervous system, helping with stress management. Our heart rate slows, our respiration slows and our blood pressure drops. This is often called the ‘relaxation response.'” (Source)

I’ve compiled some of the physical benefits, as well as the psychological benefits of meditation below:

  1. I have used mediation for many years and it does make a big difference. I have experienced 13 of the 14 benefits listed above. 🙂

  2. I have recently been rediscovering the practice of meditation because in the past it was really beneficial. Time to get into it again. Thanks for this post! Perfect timing!

  3. I loved getsomeheadspace.com. That was my introduction to meditation, which has had a profoundly positive influence in my life. I have to admit, once he got to guided meditation I lost focus. I’ve tried guided meditation before and it always feels forced, so I continue the counting breaths, then make up my own “guided” bit for the last five minutes and that’s been working pretty well. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I do! It is amazing. I have experienced all of the things you listed and more. It has been life changing in so many ways. I accompany yoga with my meditation and some days meditation alone. If the everyone meditated, the world would be a much more beautiful place. 🙂

  5. I am into meditation and have tried the 10 day app Headspace, It gave me a great start into it. I have continued and really enjoy it. The way to go!

  6. I try to incorporate it into my day whenever I can, but sometimes I’m super busy and completely forget about it! It’s very helpful to clearing my mind whenever I do fit it in though 🙂

  7. Great post. A couple of weeks ago, against my will (truly), I committed to two minutes of meditation a day. It’s still a struggle to stay focused even for that short period of time, but the benefits are incredible.
