Some Inspiration From an 8 Year Old

Having trouble letting go of something? Maybe it’s time to take the wise words of Maura, the 8 year old, into account: “Sometimes you just need to take a nap and get over it.”

Take a nap. Leave it all behind. Start fresh. Live for now.

Happiness Tip: Stop Worrying about What Other People Think of You

Happiness Tip: Stop Worrying about What others Think of You

Do you sometimes feel like you’re still in high school worrying about what others may think of you? One of the first steps in freeing yourself from this trap is to learn to let go of the fear of judgment and know that you’ll only be happy if you live your life the way YOU want to live it. Choose your own goals, activities and actions and don’t get caught up in taking on other peoples’ likes and dislikes. Be comfortable with who you are and know that you are making the right decisions, regardless of what other people may believe.

While it’s important to be open to advice and the constructive opinions of your close family and friends, trying to please everyone will only burden you and ultimately not lead to anyone’s happiness.

Remember: What makes you unique is what makes you beautiful. Stay in the present, live your life without regrets, and do what makes you happy.

Have you ever gotten caught in the trap of worrying what other people think about you? How have you freed yourself from it? Let me know in the comments!

5 Happy Habits to Practice Every Day

happy habits, happy, habits

Have you taken control of your happiness? Happiness comes from altering your habits and your way of thinking. Here are 5 habits that will help you stay happy:

1. Meditate – Do you want to be more calm, peaceful, and happy? Meditation reduces tension & stress, builds self confidence, enhances energy, reduces anxiety, and so much more.

2. Read or Watch Something Funny – While the science of laughter is in its early stages, we do know that laughter triggers healthy physical changes in the body like strengthening your immune system, diminishing pain, and boosting your energy.

3. Pet an Animal – Research by Psychology Today indicates that pets provide meaningful social support for owners. They found consistent evidence that pet owners exhibited greater self-esteem, were less lonely, and were less fearful than non owners. Even if you don’t have your own animal, petting someone else’s animal can help ease your stress.

4. Practice an Act of Kindness – Pay for the person’s coffee behind you, give someone a compliment, lend someone your umbrella, smile at a stranger, give a happy note…The possibilities are endless. Two recent studies suggest that giving to others makes us happy – even happier than spending on ourselves!

5. Talk to a Friend – Happier people tend to have supportive relationships with their family and friends. Professor Toni Antonucci says “Relationships help people feel that they’re worthy, that they are capable, that they can set goals and accomplish them, and that they can control their life.”

Do you practice any of these happy habits? What other habits have you adopted that you’ve found make you happy? Let me know in the comments!

Happiness Tip: Find Your Passion

Find Your Passion
Happiness tip: Find Your Passion

I know, I know…Finding your passion is easier said than done. Some lucky people know what their passion is from an early age, but most have to work to figure it out. When you find your passion, you are not just happier yourself, but your passion becomes contagious and inspires others to find their own passion. One of my favorite quotes about passion is “When we focus on leading a passionate, meaningful life, we are also inadvertently creating a spectacular ripple effect of inspiration in the lives around us.  When one person follows a dream, tries something new, or takes a daring leap, everyone nearby feels their passionate energy; and before too long, they are making their own daring leaps while simultaneously inspiring others.”

Not sure yet what your passion is? Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1. Are there certain activities that come easy to me?

2. Are there certain subjects that I gravitate towards when reading books, watching movies, etc.?

3. Do I enjoy certain activities enough to do them for extended periods of time?

4. What topics do I love to talk about and learn about?

5. What are my strengths?

Hopefully some of these questions will help guide you in finding your passion. Have you found something you’re passionate about or are you still looking? Let me know in the comments!

6 Happiness Movements Everyone Should Know About

I’ve started noticing more and more happiness movements popping up recently, so I decided to compile a few of my favorites to share with you! Here are 6 happiness movements everyone should know about:

1. 365 Grateful Project – A documentary about the extraordinary power of gratitude has turned into a global movement. In an effort to fight depression, Hailey decided to take one Polaroid photo a day of something she felt grateful for. Hailey posted her project on flickr and gradually others began to do their own versions of the 365 Grateful project.

Learn more about the 365 Grateful Project here: http://365grateful.com/

2. You Are Beautiful – Matthew Hoffman started the You Are Beautiful project by creating stickers that say “you are beautiful” on them. The movement has grown in the past decade from just 100 stickers to a half million stickers posted around the globe. He sends anyone who wants to be part of the movement 5 free stickers.
