How to Make a Happiness Jar

Happiness JarHave you ever heard of a happiness jar?  The concept behind it is that you write something that makes you happy on a piece of paper every day and put it into the jar. Whenever you need a pick-me-up, dig into your jar and read your happy thoughts! I initially wrote about happiness jars here.

While you can certainly have a happiness jar with any jar that you have in your home, I thought it would be fun to make one with a DIY colored mason jar. Here’s how I did it:

Gratitude Sunday

Gratitude Sunday

It’s time again for Gratitude Sunday! A few weeks ago I introduced this tradition because I think gratitude is so important to our happiness.

There are so many benefits of practicing gratitude, but I wanted to specifically share this one with you today: In a series of experiments in the the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, listing off all the things you are thankful for were linked with a brighter outlook on life and a greater sense of positivity.

Act Like a Turtle Today

Happiness Tip: Act Like a Turtle

Monday has snuck up on us again. Try your best to enjoy it!

I came upon this turtle the other day who was completely content lying in the sand for hours on end. Every once in awhile, he would move an inch and try to get into the ocean, but couldn’t quite make it. While he was stuck on the sand, I could tell that he loved being in the sun and knew that his time would eventually come to get back in the water.

It’s better to be a turtle who walks patiently and enjoys every step of the way, rather than a rabbit who runs fast, but misses all the details of life.

Are you enjoying this Monday? What are you up to today?

Welcome to Gratitude Sundays

Gratitude Sunday

When is the last time you thought of something you were grateful for? Often times we get caught up in what isn’t exactly perfect in our lives and forget to be thankful for what is going right.

Since it’s so easy to fall into that pattern, I decided to start a series of posts about gratitude. In the TED Talk I recently watched, Shawn Anchor suggests that you think of 3 things you’re grateful for each day. I usually do this when I wake up in the morning, but I want to take it a step further and share my gratitude with you all every Sunday. I would love for you to join me and tell me what you’re grateful for in the comments as well!
Showing gratitude is one of the most effective ways to reduce anxiety, depression, anger, and many more negative or “below the line” emotions.
